Three months ago the Commercial Motor department gained a new team member with the arrival of Kelly Dunk. The move to Anthony Jones was a welcome one for Kelly who lives in Dartford and is now able to cycle to work. She had been working for another insurance broker who relocated to East Grinstead, making her commute a long and traffic-congested round trip of 2 hours or more. So when a recruitment consultant got in touch to see if she’d be interested in a move to Anthony Jones, it was a no-brainer.
What insurance experience does Kelly have?
Kelly’s experience is in personal lines, predominantly insuring cars and vans. “I’ve now moved onto something a bit bigger!” she joked. She loves being back in an office environment full time (in her last job she spent most of her time working from home with just her dogs for company) and has been getting a lot of training from Steve Blackmore, the Commercial Motor director, and Dave Godfrey, the department head. She says both have been infinitely patience with her.
Where is home?
Home is an apartment she bought in 2018, perfectly sized she thought for herself and her French bulldog cross, Vinnie. But three years on, it’s a bit more of a squash with her second dog, a chihuahua called Charlie and her partner, who officially moved in at the start of lockdown.
What does Kelly enjoy outside work?
Before lockdown, Kelly enjoyed going to 50s rock and roll events. Her partner is also passionate about music events, although he enjoys a rather different genre, drum and bass. In fact, while he works as a steel erector by day, evenings and weekends are often spent as a drum and bass DJ. He even has his own record label and has converted part of the bedroom into a drum and bass producing studio.
With these events still to get back up and running again, this leaves more time for Kelly to indulge her other passion, taking the dogs for long walks on the beach and in country parks. She also heads home to visit her family in Barry, Wales as often as she can.
What TV shows and films does Kelly enjoy?
Not surprisingly, Kelly was an early fan of the TV series, Gavin and Stacey, recognising many of the locations they used in and around Barry. Other TV favourites include the cult series, Killing Eve, and Ricky Gervais’s dark comedy, After Life. And her favourite film is The Lion King, which she describes as her go-to film when she needs cheering up. That’s the original animated version, rather than the live action re-make.
What else does Kelly do in her spare time?
Kelly is a keen cook and tried many new recipes during lockdown. One of her most successful was a batch of sausage rolls she made for an event. She now regularly takes orders to make more sausage rolls from her partner’s work colleagues!
Does Kelly have a favourite meal?
Despite her proficiency in the kitchen, Kelly’s steadfast favourite meal is chips, curry sauce and battered mushrooms from the local fish and chip shop in Barry called Irene’s.
Who would she invite to a dinner party?
If she were to throw a dinner party, Kelly’s dream guest list would include Elvis Presley, Tom Hardy, Ricky Gervais, the British musician, Goldie, and American comedian, Bert Kreischer. Perhaps she’d serve up some of her famed sausage rolls?!
