A follow up with new Anthony Jones team member Dave Godfrey

We welcomed Dave Godfrey to the Anthony Jones motor fleet insurance team as Senior Manager Commercial Motor and Fleet Risk, over 3 months ago. So, we thought now would be a good time to catch up with him and find out what he’s been up to since joining us and how things have been going.

What type of work have you been doing since starting at Anthony Jones?

I’m working in the motor fleet team specialising in insurance in both the commercial vehicle and haulage markets. I’ve spent the first three months really getting to the know the ropes, how all the different processes work within the company.

As well as changing companies, my new role is also a complete change for me. I was working as an underwriter before moving to Anthony Jones. Now I’m on the other side, working closely with insurers and clients when it comes to the point of renewal. Starting to build relationships with our clients as well as the insurers that we work with. The ultimate aim of my role is to ensure our clients obtain the right insurance for their fleet business at the best possible price available.

How’s your previous experience relevant to what you’re doing now?

I have spent the last 12 years working as a senior underwriter at the insurance broker Arista. I built up a wealth of experience there, managing the fleet book and preparation of proposals and quotes across commercial motor clients, from small fleets to those with over 100 vehicles.

My role now is on the other side, working with clients to determine their needs and then requesting quotes from insurers to get the best possible insurance solution for them. I think my previous experience sets me in good stead – I know how things work on both sides of the discussion and have a technical background which I can apply when dealing with clients.

It’s a complete change for me but a really good change and I’m enjoying the new challenges and opportunity to build relationships with our clients and insurers.

How have you found the first three months?

The first three months have gone very quickly. I’m glad to say I feel very settled in to the team, who are a great team who have all made me feel very welcome. I’m currently managing 6 direct reports, one of whom is also a new recruit so I’m not alone in that fact!

Things have been very busy, much busier than I had possibly expected it would be, so I’ve definitely had to hit the ground running

I’m looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into the haulage side of things in the next weeks and months – increasing both my knowledge and ability to support the wider team.

What’s it like working for Anthony Jones?

From my experience so far, it really is a great place to work – the team are a great group of people which makes it enjoyable to come to the office every day. Whilst Anthony Jones itself is a smaller company then my previous job, the office I am working from is larger so I’m enjoying the variety of people I get to work with as well
